The CDC reports the U.S. maternal mortality rate is significantly higher than most other high-income countries, which is partly due to the US having the highest rate among developed nations

In the United States of America, Black women face three times the maternal mortality risk as white women.

Two-thirds of women in the United States die up to one year after giving birth. Most pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.
Here at Kindred Cradle our unique approach combines Reproductive Justice and Empowerment Theory to empower Black mothers in healthcare settings. Reproductive Justice emphasizes the right to maintain bodily autonomy, access necessary resources, and parent in safe, sustainable communities, centering the experiences and voices of marginalized groups. Empowerment Theory focuses on enhancing well-being, developing knowledge and skills, and engaging healthcare providers as collaborators. By integrating these frameworks, we prioritize the needs and voices of Black mothers, providing them with the tools and support they need to navigate and advocate within the healthcare system effectively.
